Co-Founder of Our Family Culture
Host of Experience Matters Podcast
Steve Shapiro is a veteran school reimaginer, with over 30 years of K-12 classroom teaching experience, 15 concurrent years as a high school humanities program director, and four years as a district leader of experiential learning. Steve has been a lifelong advocate for high school reform, experiential learning, authentic assessment, project-based learning, student voice, and community partnerships. His career has been marked by a boundless passion for designing and implementing high-impact learning experiences and an infectious enthusiasm for making school more relevant, engaging and empowering for students and teachers alike.
In addition to his K-12 work, Steve has served as a keynote speaker and professional development coach. He has trained aspiring teachers at the Ohio State University, worked on civic education consulting projects with teachers in newly emerging democracies including Poland, Ukraine, and South Africa, and served as a change coach for schools working to transform their learning practices.
In response to the unsettling state of youth mental health, Steve has recently turned his energy to building a system to help families raise emotionally healthy kids in close-knit families. His new venture, Our Family Culture, helps families build purposeful, intentional family cultures grounded in parents’ deepest fundamental values. It is transforming the lives of children and parents alike.
